MUNICIPALITY OF SERGIO OSMEŇA SR.

 

          Sergio Osmeña is a land locked mountainous municipality in the outskirts south of   ZamboangadelNorte. It is forty eight (48) kilometers from Dipolog City, the provincial capital and 90 kilometers from Pagadian City, seat of power for Zamboangadel Sur. It is accessible by land only, traversed by the national highway connecting the provinces of ZamboangadelNorte and Zamboanga del Sur.It is bound on the north by the municipalities of President Manuel Roxas, Katipunan, Polanco, Piñan and Mutia.  The province of Zamboanga del Sur borders the south; east by the province of Misamis Occidental and in the west by the municipalities of Jose Dalman and Siayan province of Zamboanga del Norte.

       The total land area of Sergio Osmeña is 55,644 hectares. Much of the local revenue of the municipality comes from agriculture. Being an inland area more than 90% of the total households are planting corn, root crops, vegetable and raising livestock. Commerce comes in second as 25% of the 5,596 (NSO 2007) households are mainly or in some ways engaged in commercial activity either by selling products during market day, having a sari sari store at home or a business establishment.

Barangay Biayon

         Barangay Biayon is the 12th largest barangay in Sergio Osmeña. It is approximately 3 kilometers away from the Poblacion. The mother barangay has 3 puroks namely Purok Uno, Purok Dos consisting of Sitio Tribal and Sebremar, and PurokTres consisting of Sitio Bato Tiltil and SitioTalaban.  Barangay Biayon is bounded by the following: Barangay De VentaPerla, Polanco in the north, Barangay Wilben, Silubo and Liwanag in the south, Barangay Antonio in the east and Barangay Danao in the west. The total land area of Biayon is 1,023 hectares.

      Based on the 2008 Community-Based Monitoring System, Barangay Biayon approximately has 80% of the total households below the poverty threshold. Majority of the residents are employed as farmers, laborers and unskilled workers. The type of industry or business commonly engaged in by the residents of the barangay is agriculture.

Majority of the residents of Barangay Biayon are Christians, with Roman Catholicism as the most dominant sector
